Thermomechanical Fatigue Behavior of a Directionally Solidified Ni-Base Superalloy

چکیده
A continuum crystal plasticity model is used to simulate the material behavior of a directionally solidified Ni-base superalloy, DS GTD-111, in the longitudinal and transverse orientations. Isothermal uniaxial fatigue tests with hold times and creep tests are conducted at temperatures ranging from room temperature (RT) to 1038°C to characterize the deformation response. The constitutive model is implemented as a User MATerial subroutine (UMAT) in ABAQUS (2003, Hibbitt, Karlsson, and Sorensen, Inc., Providence, RI, v6.3) and a parameter estimation scheme is developed to obtain the material constants. Both in-phase and out-of-phase thermo-mechanical fatigue tests are conducted. A physically based model is developed for correlating crack initiation life based on the experimental life data and predictions are made using the crack initiation model. fDOI: 10.1115/1.1924560g

Very High Cycle Fatigue Behavior of a Directionally Solidified Ni-Base Superalloy DZ4
The effect of casting pores on the very high cycle fatigue (VHCF) behavior of a directionally solidified (DS) Ni-base superalloy DZ4 is investigated. Casting and hot isostatic pressing (HIP) specimens were subjected to very high cycle fatigue loading in an ambient atmosphere. The results demonstrated that the continuously descending S-N curves were exhibited for both the casting and HIP specime...
متن کاملA Thermomechanical Fatigue Crack Initiation Model for Directionally-solidified Ni-base Superalloys
Nickel-base superalloys have been used extensively in power generation applications due to their high strength at temperatures up to 1093°C. When the material is subjected to complex mechanical loading superimposed with thermal loading, fatigue interacts with either creep and/or oxidation. Directionallysolidified (DS) materials are often used in place of polycrystalline (PC) materials since the...
متن کاملA Hysteresis for a Ds Superalloy under Thermomechanical Fatigue
Cyclic plasticity and creep are the primary design considerations of 1 and 2 stage gas turbine blades. Directionally-solidified (DS) Ni-base materials have been developed to provide (1) greater creep ductility and (2) lower minimum creep rate in solidification direction compared to other directions. Tracking the evolution of deformation in DS structures necessitates a constitutive model having ...
متن کاملFatigue-creep-environment Interactions in a Directionally-solidified Ni-base Superalloy
Directionally-solidified (DS) GTD-111 is a Ni-base superalloy designed to withstand damage occurring in the first and second stage blades of gas-powered turbines. Because of the distinctive microstructure of this material, the manner in which fatiguecreep-environment damage mechanisms interact to initiate cracks is sensitive to grain structure and chemical composition. Along with fatigue cyclin...

Service conditions of turbine blades involve fatigue, creep, and environmental corrosion. Themanner in which these mechanisms interact to initiate cracks is complex. These physicalmechanisms have been observed through observation and measurement of damage in adirectionally-solidified (DS) GTD-111 Ni-base superalloy. Experiments include high temperaturelow cycle fatigue with and ...
